The Original Sample:

Sara Smile by Hall & Oates

So, back in 2005, I moved back to Gainesville, FL.  I was working at Best Buy at the time and met a spitfire of a girl named Sara.  She was this beautiful, big-eyed, weirdo of a thing.  I don’t know if she ever realized this, but she had this unbelievably magnetic way about her.  Now, I use past-tense because we haven’t really kept in touch since, well…I can’t even remember.   I think we ran into each other in downtown Gainesville maybe a few years before I left.  All that comes to mind when I remember hanging out with her is a lot of hyperbolic excitement, screaming thru smiles, and ridiculous conversations.  Nothing was ever really serious– it didn’t need to be.  For example, she showed me this thing where you laugh without smiling.  Try it– it’s just ridiculous and gets a laugh everytime.  With her, it was about being around good people, having fun, and living in the moment.  That’s how I remember her being…and even to this day I haven’t met anyone that had the same solar flare of a spirit.

As you can imagine, it was very difficult hearing the news of her battle with cancer.  I’m not the biggest religious or spiritual person but I feel as though our thoughts and our prayers can help her in this fight. The thing is…it’s about taking those memories and channeling them outward into the universe and focusing them on her.  Providing her that energy to find the strength to fight, heal, and keep shining.  Willing it.  She’s made an impression on many people– shined her light, as it were.  Since we last spoke, I have no doubt that she has continued to affect the lives of others in a positive albeit absurd way.  If you know her, or even if you don’t, please take some time out of your day and send a thought her way.   I think it’s only right that we return some of that light and send it her way.

Trust me– she’s one of the good ones.  Keep fighting, Sara!
