Original Sample:

Pains of Love by New Birth

New Birth is actually an ensemble of several groups: The Nite-Liters (Instrumentalists), The Now Sound (a Male Vocal Group), Mint Julip (a Female Vocal Group), and Love, Peace & Happiness (Even more vocalists). As New Birth, they dropped 16 albums. This week’s sample is taken from their 1974 album, It’s Been a Long Time, which features their famous single, Wildflower, which is actually a cover Skylark’s original (Sampled by Kanye West on Drive Slow). Wildflower led me to this album, but when I heard “Pains of Love” it was an easy choice for a sample. The entire album is amazing. Definitely a classic edition to your collection.

One of my favorite New Birth joints is “You Don’t Have To Be Alone” which was sampled on one of my favorite tracks, “Tell a Story” off of Rhymefest’s Blue Collar album. Here is a video of New Birth performing the track live:

  1. THIS WEEK PISSED ME OFF. I’m on vacation right now so I only had time to throw a couple loops together; never really “finished” the tracks. Trying to squeeze even that small amount out of my head with such a small amount of time with just a mouse stressed me the hell out. Minus my complaints, I thoroughly enjoyed the session, guys!

  2. Mateo says:

how do you download the samples?

  3. Blackph03nix says:

@ Mateo – get in contact with the producer/s. You cannot download from here.

    Enjoyable session.

  4. @Mateo — if you want to be added to the producer roster and receive the sample each week, just send an email to weeklybeatsessions@gmail.com.
