Hitori Kaze by Meiko Kaji – BeatSession 09|11|12

The Original Sample:

Hitori Kaze by Meiko Kaji

This week’s sample comes from Meiko Kaji’s1973 release, Hajiki Uta (Outcasted Poems). Meiko is a Japanese actress who starred as a series of outlaw characters in Japanese films during the early 1970s. She was also a singer and had several releases during the early to mid 70s. If her voice sounds familiar, it’s because two of her tracks, Lady Snowblood, “Shura no Hana” (修羅の花) and the theme song of the Female Convict Scorpion series, “Urami Bushi” (怨み節) were used in Kill Bill Vol 1. and Kill Vol 2, respectively. Use of these two songs in the Kill Bill movies led to a renewed interest in Meiko Kaji’s music. As a result, Meiko resumed her musical career after a 31- year hiatus and released music in 2009 and 2011.
